Another Good Report

May 6, 2006 by Laura | Trackback URI

Let me be the first to admit that I may be - and devoutly hope to be, in this case - WRONG. Another good report about moderate Islam, right on the heels of the last one. Rhymes with Right posts on “An Interesting Move In Morocco“.

The training of the preachers is part of a campaign launched by the young king, a descendant of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, to strengthen state-controlled mosques while undermining radical clerics who preach Islamic extremism. He has vowed that no foreign religious doctrine would be tolerated in the North African kingdom, which is a close ally of the United States and a partner in its war against terrorism.

Obviously this is not as good news as religious freedom would be, but you have to crawl before you walk. At least efforts to mitigate the abominable way women are treated in Islam are being made.

[Updated: here's why I'm not optimistic on "moderate" Islam - because I agree with Robert Spencer when he says that the Luther-type reformers in Islam, the ones who say that the faith has strayed from it's origins are the radical Islamists. So the "moderates" are exactly what the radicals label them - heretics from the faith. I still wish the moderates success, because a moderate form of Islam grants more freedom than a strict form, and fewer reasons for our troops to be deployed.]

I’d love to read what you have to say, but your right hand column covers up most of it. I love that verse, but it covers up your blog posts.

Silly me…I have my “view” set on largest to accomodate my aging eyes! Much better.

The problem with the “moderation” idea is the Koran demands that there be no state that is not ruled by Islam, and the duty of Muslims is to conquer ALL states. They cannot change their basic tenets, and they are forbidden to change their religion upon pain of death. When Jesus comes again, they’ll figure it out, I guess. ;-)

Dagney, what setting is that? I’ve tested at various screen resolutions but I can’t duplicate the problem.
