The Da Vinci Code: Fiction, Fact & Faith
May 17, 2006 by Laura | Trackback URI
My pastor recently did a sermon about the Da Vinci Code. He had an interesting take on it - he didn’t spend a lot of time debunking the factual errors in the book, or how disingenuous it is for the author to simultaneously claim that it is fiction and that it is factual. Instead he spent most of the time addressing the issue of what makes people vulnerable to believing this kind of thing.
Postmodernism has led to serious spiritual vulnerability. People want spirituality, and they need it. But because of our sinful natures, we seek it in ways that are self-gratifying instead of God-glorifying. Gnosticism is appealing for that reason - you get to be privy to “secret” information. From a worldly standpoint, it’s the best of both worlds - you can claim Christianity while simultaneously claiming that Christianity is based on a pack of lies.
The sermon is about an hour and twenty minutes long. The video is just power point slides, the first one stays a long time but eventually it does change.
Enjoy!
