More Border Insanity

In Border Insanity I expressed my frustration as a Republican voter with our government selling us out to a foreign government. I said,
I don’t want a Democrat majority, but I’m getting to the point that I think they can’t do much worse, and I am getting to the point that I want the Republicans to finally bear the consequences of their actions. If that means the Republicans lose the majority we fought so hard for – which they have done precious little with anyway – and suffer two years of investigations and impeachment hearings, then so be it.
Instapundit’s podcast (The Glenn and Helen Show) has an interview with Ken Mehlman. Mehlman sticks to the party line – “jobs Americans won’t do, supply and demand” and so on. Very disingenuous, proof that Republican leadership either doesn’t get it or doesn’t care. It’s true that there are jobs Americans won’t do for minimum wage or less than minimum wage. Where in the Constitution are companies guaranteed cheap labor? What we save on a head of lettuce we more than make up for in billions of dollars of social services, federal reimbursement of ER bills run up by illegals, less health care being available because hundreds of hospitals have closed, HUGE increases in leprosy, drug-resistant TB, and other diseases we haven’t had to deal with in decades, higher education costs, the costs of printing thousands of government documents in English and Spanish, and the list could go on. Cheap labor, it’s not. It’s just taxpayer-subsidized.
Mehlman wants to remind people what it would mean to have Patrick Leahy in charge of the judiciary committee, Charlie Rangel in charge of tax writing, and people who want to impeach the President in power. Scare tactics won’t work, however, because Republicans in their fear of using the so called nuclear option squandered their chance to get a really conservative judiciary, and in fact tried to foist Harriet Miers on us. They got us some temporary tax breaks with that hard-fought-for majority. Temporary. The biggest accomplishment by the current crop of Republicans is BILLIONS in pork.
Even if I may not agree with the reasons why Democrats want to impeach Bush, I’m getting to the point where I think the goal is laudable because Bush’s efforts to facilitate illegal immigration are frankly treasonous. He has done everything in his power to stop our laws from being enforced, and I’m sick of it. If Republicans take their lumps in 2006 and 2008, at this point I’m okay with it, because following Vicente Fox’s stated goal to create an EU-style construct out of North America is a more imminent danger to the nation than losing thousands or even hundreds of thousands of citizens to radical Islamist terror attacks. In the event of terror attacks we will pull together again just like we did after 9/11. If we hand over our sovereignty, we may never get it back. If we continue to allow millions of illegals to come here – and legalizing the 12 to 20 million illegals in the current batch mean a total of 30-40 million because they can and will bring in family members – then we are basically guaranteed a Democratic majority for decades to come. I’m more than willing for the current GOP to take their lumps for the next few years and hopefully come back older and wiser for having been out of power, than I am to concede our sovereignty and hand the country over to the Democrats for the rest of my lifetime.
