Weekend Trackbacks – Eco-Whacko Edition

This Cox and Forkum cartoon reminded me of a post from last February:
“There is a new hybrid in town – evangelical Christians and eco-whackos have merged to form the Evangelical Climate Initiative.”
Al Gore, the purpose driven scaremonger, has received the official sanction of Rick Warren and a bunch of other evangelicals. That and a few bucks will get me a double latte at Starbucks. But no compilation CD. His science, such as it is, has been debunked.
Two things terrified me and kept me up at night when I was a kid. One was the population explosion – there was going to be no room, we were going to have so many people. The Population Bomb by Paul Ehrlichman was a best seller in 1968, the year I was born. I grew up hearing tales about how awful things were going to be by the time I was in my twenties, the earth couldn’t support us all, there would be no room to grow food, not enough potable water, people would starve, and we were all going to die. The other was the coming ice age. The earth was cooling, and for a while we’d manage if we bundled up, but before long it would be too cold to grow food and we were all going to die. I was genuinely afraid of these things happening, because the adults around me were afraid of them. By the time these things were supposed to come to pass, we were all preoccupied with “that nut” Reagan who was going to provoke a nuclear war, which would lead to fallout, nuclear winter, starvation, and we were all going to die!
So pardon me if I don’t get too excited about global warming.

MySpace.Com’s services should be boycotted and avoided
This is the opinion I’ve reached after reading the latest news on the Michigan teenager named Katherine Lester who tried to run away to Jericho to meet a total stranger of a Muslim (ditto his mother) and marry him.

Like an aging monument, democracy itself is crumbling.
