The Daughter of the House takes the Stanford Achievement Test every year so we can assess how well this homeschooling thing is working out for us. She’s just finishing up the 9th grade – late because of Hurricane Katrina – and this was her second year of homeschooling. She repeated the 8th grade because she didn’t want to do the work the first time. She’ll make that year up over the next two years and still graduate on time. However, if I were inclined to let her get her GED instead of a diploma, she could probably get it now. Here are the latest results:
| Subject | Grade Level Equivalent |
| Reading Vocabulary | PHS |
| Reading Comprehension | PHS |
| Mathematics | 10.3 |
| Language Mechanics | PHS |

PHS stands for Post High School. Post. High. School. Post High School!

Her percentiles are very high, but there’s no way I’m typing all that.
There were several people in my family who violently argued against taking the DOTH out of the school system. I’m glad I stood my ground and did what I thought was best for her. If you’re considering homeschooling for your high school age student, as long as the student is willing to do it, I highly recommend it. She can sleep until 8:30 every morning so she’s much better rested and easier to get along with, and finishes her classes by around 2:00, including homework. My daughter has more time than ever for social activities, voice lessons, time with the family, part time job and pretty much everything else she wants since we started home schooling. I don’t have to teach her – she uses the Abeka video curriculum, and there are also online home school programs. I proctor her exams and other than that, just help with schoolwork the same way I did when she was in school. As an added benefit, she has grown very responsible and self-motivated. She’ll have a very easy adjustment to college.
POST HIGH SCHOOL!!! Woohoo!!!!

Well congratulations to her! That’s awesome! I hope she keeps up the good work!
Thanks!
