Nobody Elected You Speed Governor!

August 2, 2006 by Laura | Trackback URI

I’ve had meetings and appointments all morning - which after yesterday’s schedule and working until 2:00 a.m. was a bit brutal - and the icing on that cake was a bozo who elected himself speed governor of the left lane. The speed limit was 60, and he was driving 62 MPH. As part of the steady stream of cars passing him on the right, I glanced over and saw him giggling to himself, presumably because of the aggravation he was causing all these people with his rolling roadblock maneuver.

Obviously it is desirable to do the speed limit. Since my daughter is now driving, much of the lead in my foot has been removed, but back in the day when I commuted daily between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, leaving the house at 5:30 a.m., it was not uncommon for me to exceed 100 MPH. These days I stick to within 10% of the speed limit, unless it’s dangerous to not keep up with traffic. But I stay in the right or at least the middle lane. This guy decided for everyone else what their speed would be, instead of moving right so faster traffic could pass. There are no left exits around here, and no excuse for this. He was creating a dangerous situation for other people.

Please. Don’t be that guy.
