Ninjas have protected this information for hundreds of years. It’s a particular maneuver where they are able, by applying one hold, to stop dozens – or more – people. And because they are ninja, we can’t see them do it.
Okay, that’s not true. Your Senator is not a ninja. As far as I know. However, he or she may have applied a secret hold that has stopped the work of Tom Coburn, Barak Obama, and countless staffers, in its tracks. S.2590 would create a web database so we can finally see, in an easy and convenient way, how our money gets spent. And some sneak of a Congresscritter has anonymously blocked it. There is absolutely no justification for blocking the bill. That’s why it was done anonymously. If we can take 3,000,000 dollars out of the pockets of American taxpayers for the City College of New York for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service to “prepare individuals for careers in public service, which may include establishing an endowment, library and archives for such center,” then we can afford a few thousand to establish this website.
I build websites for a living, and I can tell you that even the government could not possibly find a way to spend more than $100,000 on building this. Well, maybe they could. But it would be hard to justify. Let’s be over-the-top generous and say $1,000,000 to set up and maintenance of $300,000 a year to keep a couple of people on staff full time just to maintain it. Compared to the $3,000,000 grant which will create more politicians in Charlie Rangel’s name, it sounds like a bargain to me. If Rangel really wants to create more politicians, we could subsidize a Viagra prescription for him, but that’s as far as I’m willing to go.
Porkbusters asked, “Who Is The Secret Holder?” and there has been a lamentable lack of activity on that page. Since I reported last week that both my senators denied it, only six more Senators have been added to the list. If you have a blog, spread the word about this, and if your Senator is not listed as “in the clear” call up and ask. It takes just a few minutes to ask them to go on the record denying they placed the hold. You can get your Senator’s phone number here.
