More on Evil - Westboro Baptist Church and the Phelps Clan

I’ve posted about this group of people before, and I believe they stepped over the line from “misguided” to “evil” a long time ago. This latest stomach-turning publicity stunt has brought me to tears of rage and frustration, and I’m actually nauseated by it. They were actually planning to protest the funerals of those poor, murdered Amish girls, but settled for an hour of air time to spew their bile all over Mike Gallagher’s audience. How dare they call themselves Christian? How dare they attack people? Especially completely unrelated to their cause? They have the right to free speech and I agree with that right, as despicable as they - and their speech - are. That doesn’t mean we can’t answer them back and repudiate them as they deserve.
Their press release references Hebrews 10:30-31:
For we know Him who has said, “Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay, says the Lord.” And again, “The Lord shall judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
I don’t think that quote means what they think it means. And while I despise these evil people, I can still find a little room in my heart to pity them, because the day will come when they fall into the hands of the living God.

You know, I have to wonder if Jesus would mind if I arranged an… accident, for Mr. Phelps. Just kidding. Sorta.
Gaige… I don’t take your comment seriously that you would do physical harm to Phelps or any of his cult members, but I’m going to respond seriously anyway.
Yes, Jesus would mind a great deal. It’s not our job to deliver justice, unless some law has been broken, we are part of a government agency authorized to prosecute and punish violations, and it’s part of our actual job description.
It absolutely breaks my heart and infuriates me that Satan’s lies are being accepted! And I really think that this poor man (I use those words loosely) really believes that what he is doing is of God. But not only is he giving Christians a bad name, but he is completely taking the name of our Lord and Savior in vain and running it through the mud.
What can we do as a unified body of Christ to stand up and be heard over the lies being spewed?
Laura, I really was joking, I need to say these things to vent my frustrations at that man. I should have kept it to myself, I apologize.
Gaige, no problem, like I said, I didn’t take your comment seriously. I responded seriously because I want to avoid even the *appearance* of impropriety.
