Some nutjob war protestors believe that peace can be achieved by people all over the world simultaneously enjoying sex. It’s all about the O – the Global O, that is.
WHO? All Men and Women, you and everyone
you know.WHERE? Everywhere in the world, but especially in countries with weapons of mass destruction.
WHEN?
Winter Solstice Day – Friday, December 22nd,
at the time of your choosing, in the place of your choosing and with as much privacy as you choose.WHY? To effect positive change in the energy field of the Earth through input of the largest possible surge of human energy a Synchronized Global Orgasm. There are two more US fleets heading for the Persian Gulf with anti-submarine equipment that can only be for use against Iran, so the time to change Earth’s energy is NOW!
And this is right out of Julian May’s “Metaconcert” books:
We hope that a huge influx of physical, mental and spiritual energy with conscious peaceful intent will not only show up on Princeton’s REGs, but will have profound positive effects that will change the violent state of the human world.
This is some kind of ancillary project for something Princeton – yes, that Princeton – is wasting money on studying. The more we look at Ivy League and other exclusive colleges, the better the colleges around here look. I do not want to send my daughter to one of these asylums. Over at Hot Air, commenter RightWinged hit the nail on the head: “I love when the left won’t acknowledge God and the power of prayer.. but call it concentrating “energy” and it’s all good. RightWinged on November 20, 2006 at 1:34 AM” (In all fairness, I do know some liberals who are devout Christians. I haven’t met many, though.)
From the website:
The goal is to add so much concentrated and high-energy positive input into the energy field of the Earth that it will reduce the current dangerous levels of aggression and violence throughout the world.
Er… No. But I’ll give them this much – after their contribution to this project, all the men who participate will immediately fall asleep, thus making them incapable of any violence. At least for eight hours or so. But I can tell you now, this is not a feasible long term proposition, unless you can get them to do the dishes and some other chores around the house, so women have the energy to participate in this on a daily basis.
Since this is a leftist project, I think a global conspiracy theory is in order. This is masterminded by some wacademic weenie because it’s the only way some of these people will ever get a chance to have sex. They have this one chance to procreate, ensuring the next generation of little Chomskys will be there, keeping the Democratic party in power. “If not for me, Helen, do it for your country!” The next phase of the conspiracy will be implemented in January through February. I’m not sure how they’re going to do it, but all Planned Parenthood clinics will mysteriously close for a several months.
Icing on the lunacy cake: A minor example of how out of touch these loons are – their “Global O” countdown widget only works on Macs.

In all fairness, I do know some liberals who are devout Christians. I haven’t met many, though.
I would add that besides those devout Christians who are liberals, but not new-age, there are also non-Christians who would reject both prayer and “balancing of energies” about equally.
As a Christian myself, I don’t advocate prayer as a substitute for action in any case. I recall a pastor friend saying that there is no ministry of your church that will substitute for prayer, but prayer does not substitute for any ministry of your church, yet every ministry will be improved by prayer.
I would say the same thing about every other aspect of life.
Quite true. I need to make a better distinction between far leftists and liberals. Seems like the sicker I get, the more I’m fighting that parochial tendency – taking the rhetorically cheap way out. Well, I’m working on it…
And you’re also correct, of course, that there are non-Christians who reject all views of the supernatural.
I think prayer IS a form of action, however. I completely agree that it should not be the only thing we do – the book of James pretty much says it all on that point, and Christians as a body would find that witnessing is quite simple when we do it, rather than speak it. What’s the expression? Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words?
I think prayer IS a form of action
Absolutely. I agree! But one of the great blessings of prayer, I think, is that it is not an exclusive form of action. Often I believe God supernaturally leads us to answer our own prayers in what appears to be a natural way. Too often we then assume that we did it all.
I believe that the primary purpose of prayer is actually to adjust us. To quote myself
— “The time when your faith will move mountains is the time when your faith has you so in tune with God that you want the mountain to move at the same time God does.” (Not Ashamed of the Gospel: Confessions of a Liberal Charismatic, p. 47)
But I ramble . . .
That’s an excellent quote, and I may repeat it from time to time (with a link, of course).
