“Prosperity” Revival?! Why not just teach voodoo?

I just saw a local TV ad for a “Prosperity Revival.” Some of the verbiage in the ad was “You don’t have to spend another day in poverty for the rest of your life,” and “God wants to bless you with riches!”
I have a little newsflash for people who buy into that garbage. God does NOT necessarily want to bless you with riches. In fact, riches can be a curse as much as a blessing. And to assume that if God loves you, he will bless you with material wealth… to say that it’s offensive doesn’t BEGIN to cover it. Do you think that God loves American Christians better than he loves Christians in Bangladesh or Indonesia or Central America? Sure, if they would just pray the prayer of Jabez and recite some prosperity verses, all those Christians in Darfur would cease to be starved, raped and massacred! Obviously, they are not relieved from their tribulations because they didn’t ask. Those idiots! Quick! Let’s get on the next plane and tell them how to solve their problems!
The arrogance some folks have, the unbelievable audacity to conclude that a lack of material blessing indicates something about your relationship with God, shows an absolute lack of understanding of God’s nature and what we’re supposed to be doing here. And the big, gaping, obvious hole in their philosophy is that this life and this world is the time and the place for rewards.

This, on the other hand, is the perfect parody of the prosperity movement. Enjoy!
Update: My ranting aside, here is a YouTube video with a good debunking of the “greed gospel” and the men who sell Jesus.

Like an aging monument, democracy itself is crumbling.

It’s always great when I can have a hearty out loud laugh at work. Thanks, Laura!
Good post. I’ve always wondered how one could read the Bible, or Christian history for that matter and come up with the prosperity gospel.
Thanks, y’all!
Cheers that gave me a good giggle
Well spoken, and cheers for the Utube link, that is very well done
