A Bonaducian Rant

Have you ever cut yourself with a sharp knife and noticed that it takes a moment for it to hurt? When it doesn’t hurt, it’s indicative of a serious problem like diabetes, leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) or some kind of nerve damage. This phenomenon was recently illustrated with a video at Hot Air.

Danny Bonaduce, of Patridge Family fame, was minding his own business eating lunch when a Truther approached him with a microphone, seeking a sound bite. I can’t imagine what might have motivated the Truther. If I’m looking for someone to validate a position I hold, or even someone to debate, I’m going to try to find someone with authority. Not a demi-celebrity with a history of substance abuse problems who is trying – and so far succeeding – in putting his life back in order. However, in a classic example of what free speech is all about, the Truther got to spew his bile, and Mr. Bonaduce delivered a very efficient smackdown – all the better because it was so clearly unrehearsed. See-dubya referred to it in the Hot Air thread as a “Bonaducian rant” and that’s a phrase I’d love to see get some traction – a spur of the moment, righteous smackdown in response to some bit of lunacy. Classic free speech. And the Truther, who so far is not feeling the pain of the cut, actually posted the video on You Tube. Someday he may smarten up and moments like these are going to hurt.
