Zawahiri: If We Are Safe, You Might Be Safe

The latest newsletter from Centcom is out. There are several interesting items that you won’t see in the media, including: Iraq Assistance Group Documentary, Iraqi Village Builds Women’s Center, Joint Intelligence Operations Center Opens in Kabul, and Iraqis celebrate school reopening.

My favorite – Army destroys insurgent stronghold in Diyala.

BALAD RUZ, Iraq — The U.S. Army concluded a massive, nine-day assault Jan. 13, centered on a series of small villages in the Diyala province that for the past 18 months had been used as a safe haven for insurgents. During the operation, Soldiers from the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment Reconnaissance, 82nd Airborne Division, killed more than 100 insurgents and detained 54 suspected of involvement with terrorism activities in the area, which is located just south of Balad Ruz.

When we let them win, they win. This statement is true for BOTH sides of the conflict; our troops or our enemies. The United States will choose the victor.

As for negotiation with radical Islamists, Zawahiri amply demonstrates the futility of appeasement:

He states: “if we are secure, you might be secure, and if we are safe, you might be safe. And if we are struck and killed, you will definitely – with Allah’s permission – be struck and killed.”

Bernie – done, thanks for the heads up. Nicely done, replacing the hotlinked picture, btw. :-)

It is interesting that he comments if they “are” safe, then we “might” be safe. This is pretty typical of their thinking and our media lets them get away with this double standard.

I love your blog. I will add it to mine.

Thanks, Paul, I checked yours out as well – your theme is gorgeous, and I was very impressed with your transparency and insight in “I was wrong…” – I’ve often struggled with forgiveness, and actually did a series on it when I was studying it and struggling with it personally. It’s a comfort to know others have the same issues. :-)
