Charles at LGF: the Diggbats are revolting.
Me: You said it! They stink on ice!
Hot Air has more. The inmates really are running the asylum.
The inmates are running the asylum elsewhere as well, as this Stalin-Esque Show Trial At Tufts University illustrates.
Wizbanger DJ Drummond attempts to reintroduce civility to online political debate.
John “Abscam” Murtha accuses General Petraeus of being a political hack and claims that he only came back to the US to talk to the media, and not Congress - in spite of the fact that top-level Democrats ducked him, and Reid said flat-out that he refused to believe him. Having committed to Philophronos blogging, I’ll refrain from writing all the things that I’ve thought since seeing that video. In fact I’m praying that God will work on me in this regard, because the rage I’m feeling about now toward top-level Democrats is almost overwhelming.
I do take comfort in this, though: the Democrats desperation to declare this war lost and get the troops out before the political repercussions of their reprehensible behavior hits them is almost palpable. In Iraq, al Qaeda is on the ropes as many milbloggers have pointed out, because their nominal Sunni allies are finally turning against them. Reducing Iran’s influence on the Shia population is the next step. Here in America, that good news will destroy the Democratic party leadership, and they know it. And it’s starting to leak out, after months of media suppression. When the NY Times and WaPo came out with articles positive about the surge, it got the Democrat’s attention. And if the good news keeps coming, and the American people realize what has been done, the Democratic Party will take decades to come back from that political wilderness. That’s why they are screaming now, and getting more and more outrageous in their statements. It’s now or never for them, and they know it.
The milblogs who have been getting the good news out past the MSM filters are now under attack by their own leadership. As Michelle Malkin wrote, Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! At the excellent Badgers Forward blog, Badger 6 writes
Now the way I read that I should be able to continue blogging under our current unit policy. But in truth his explanation goes far afield of what the policy actually reads. I am very concerned that Army milblogs may not be long for this internet.
Blackfive writes,
The Bottom-Line to the this bad piece of regulation: The soldiers who will attempt to fly under the radar and post negative items about the military, mission, and commanders will continue to do so under the new regs. The soldiers who’ve been playing ball the last few years, the vast, VAST, majority will be reduced. In my mind, this reg will accomplish the exact opposite of its intent. The good guys are restricted and the bad continue on…
Operational Security is of paramount importance. But we are losing the Information War on all fronts. Fanatic-like adherence to OPSEC will do us little good if we lose the few honest voices that tell the truth about The Long War.
Instead, the US Army should adopt Major Robbins recommendations, allow for unit bloggers, and restrict bloggers with the same rules as the military gives embed reporters (with UCMJ exceptions). Maybe, then, we can start winning some battles on the information front.
Here’s hoping the military exercises a little common sense in this regard.
