From the latest Carnival of Hurricane Relief – The Gray Monk had this Katrina storm surge photo:

As you can see, the water is overtopping the levee. There were a lot of levee breaks in that area, along with the 17th St. Canal and at London Avenue, but this one happens to be an overtopping. It was much closer to the eye of the storm.
He didn’t know the source, but it turns out to have been taken by a guy from Entergy. You can see more of his photos here. When I first heard that Andrea was out there and saw one track heading right to N’awlins, I was a bit nervous – along with the rest of the city, because we had pump failures and a lot of street flooding thanks to a thunderstorm last week. Just peachy… it looks like we’ll have to bug out for Category 1 storms from now on.
