Satellite Problem - Inaccurate Hurricane Warnings ACLU: Why can’t people just look away?

2007

Every once in a while, I get a forcible reminder of just how odd I am. I’m in good company, at least - the political blogosphere is right here with me, even those on the left with whom I strongly disagree. I have more in common with the most unhinged moonbat at Daily Kos than I do with the vast majority of the country because at least the moonbat, though completely wrong in his conclusions, has made an effort to be informed.

In a recent conversation about terrorism, I referenced the 7/7 bombings. Three of the five people at the table had blank looks. I clarified, “The London bombings.” One person nodded, the other two continued to look confused.
Anbar awakening? Forget it.
Drilling in ANWAR? No idea.
Straights of Hormuz? Clueless.
Terrorism in the Philippines? Nothing.
Chavez nationalizing industries? So?
Ortega back in power? Who’s that?
General Petraeus? Blank expressions.

But they know the names of the last three Idol winners, I bet.

    That is scary.

I’m not surprised a bit. There’s a lot of things going on in the world every day. Most people probably don’t even pay attention to any of it except the really big, important things like whether President Bush ordered Nancy Pelosi to betray the country’s foreign policy interests this past spring.
