Right on time - here comes the global cooling crisis!

Here comes the new climate crisis, right on time: Global cooling. I knew that when the media could no longer sustain the warming hype, they would do exactly what they did last time - switch to cooling. And courtesy of Bob Parks at Black and Right, here’s the first article this century on that very topic. It won’t be the last. There will be more and more, until a “consensus” is reached, and all this global warming hype of the last two decades will go right down the memory hole. On the bright side, I can buy that Hummer with a clear conscience, knowing I’m doing my part to save the planet.

Forget warming - beware the new ice age
In the 1970s, leading scientists claimed that the world was threatened by an era of global cooling.

Based on what we’ve learned this decade, says George Kukla, those scientists - and he was among them — had it right. The world is about to enter another Ice Age.

… Many today speak with derision of the 1970s global-cooling scare, seeing it as a cautionary false alarm. Others see it as an embarrassment — Newsweek magazine, which published a 1975 article entitled “The Cooling World,” even corrected the record with a 2006 follow-up to its 1975 article arguing that scientists now have it right.

Dr. Kukla sees it — and the 1975 Newsweek article — differently. Although the magazine article indicated that the cooling trend would be continuous, scientists knew otherwise. “None of us expected uninterrupted continuation of the trend,” he states. Moreover, thanks to new evidence that Dr. Kukla only recently published, he now knows that global warming always precedes an ice age.

Just one example of the doom and gloom we’ll be forgetting about in light of this new crisis: the Guardian’s science editor Ian Sample included the following quotes in this 2005 article, Warming hits ‘tipping point’,

“If we don’t take action very soon, we could unleash runaway global warming that will be beyond our control and it will lead to social, economic and environmental devastation worldwide,” he said. “There’s still time to take action, but not much.

“The assumption has been that we wouldn’t see these kinds of changes until the world is a little warmer, but this suggests we’re running out of time.”

Very convenient. Right before all those terrible consequences of global warming were about to kick in, we have an entirely different crisis to busy our little minds. Thousands of articles, chock full of those types of quotes… millions of dollars spent crafting Kyoto and pushing it on a largely unwilling populace. And we’ll never see an apology from Mr. Sample or any of the hundreds of media scaremongers just like him.

What did I tell you?

I guess 112 years of this nonsense wasn’t enough - we’re going to have to go through a few more cycles before the media is held accountable. As the article points out,

Some in the media would probably argue that they merely report what scientists tell them, but that would be only half true.

Journalists decide not only what they cover; they also decide whether to include opposing viewpoints. That’s a balance lacking in the current “debate.”

This isn’t a question of science. It’s a question of whether Americans can trust what the media tell them about science.

But do note the fact that no matter what the climate problem is, the solution is always more government intervention. Give it a few months and we’ll see articles about how the government is going to save us from this crisis - they just need a little more power and a little more tax money.
