It’s articles like this one that get me excited about voting for Fred Thompson – yes, he’s stating the obvious, of course Robert Mgabe has destroyed a previously well-run and prosperous country, and of course the U.N. is a corrupt joke. But in these days of political correctness and nuance, plainly stating the obvious is a lost art. Fred Thompson is willing to offend, a trait he shares with George Bush and one I heartily approve. People whose goal it is to never offend seldom say anything worth listening to. If Fred! actually makes it to the White House, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he sends John Bolton back to the U.N.
Two United Nations agencies have just released a report saying that 4 million people in Zimbabwe are in danger of starving. That’s a third of the entire country’s population. Take note that I said “two United Nations agencies” are predicting the mass starvation.
The reason I want you to take note of that is that, last month, the same United Nations elected Mugabe’s Zimbabwe to lead the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. That’s the organization charged with promoting sound long-term economies.
