Jena 6: More Coverage, Contact Governor Blanco
The Jena 6 story has been getting great coverage in the sinestrosphere, but practically none, except here at PH, in the dextrosphere. But it’s one of those stories where we should all be on the same side. It’s a no-brainer. While I don’t agree with every conclusion and motive as stated by the left with regard to this story, the undisputed facts are more than enough to get my blood boiling - and that of everyone I’ve told, liberal and conservative alike. So it’s with great pleasure that I report this story is finally getting more air on the right. It’s at Blue Collar Muse, who has a great writeup. It was also linked at Conservablogs.
If you still don’t know who the Jena 6 are or why you should care, check my Jena Six archive here - scroll down and read your way up.
Or watch this video for a mostly accurate and quick primer on the case:
Amy Goodman of Democracy Now has another excellent article at Seattle Post Intelligencer - she’s calling for Governor Blanco to pardon the Jena Six.
You can sign a petition here if you like. Personally I think online petitions are dumb because politicians don’t care about what people think. They primarily care about what registered voters in their districts think and to an extent, what their constituents think because they might register to vote, donate or have influence on those who do. So sign it if you like but above all, please contact your Senators and your Representative. Tell them about the Jena 6 and demand that the Justice Department investigate.
If you live in Louisiana, contact Governor Blanco and ask not just for the pardon, but for LaSalle DA Reed Walters and the Jena police to be investigated.
Write:

E-mail the Governor
Call:

And most of all, spread the word about the Jena Six!

Laura -
Thanks so much for the link and the pingback.
It’s amazing to me that this story has not garnered more support than it has. If the Duke lacrosse story was bad, this is far worse. Like you, everyone I’ve shared the details with is horrified yet many bloggers I expected to pick this up and run with it have not. I don’t know why.
That being the case, those of us who are supporting the J6 need to keep doing so until it takes off. My guess is that this is one of those stories that will simmer along just below the surface until it hits some sort of critical mass and then it will explode across a number of lines very quickly. While it’s discouraging at the moment, a day is coming when hard work and perserverance will pay off.
A writer I admire a great deal wrote a long time ago that we should not grow weary in doing good and promised that if we would perservere in sowing good seed, we would eventually reap an appropriate harvest. Listening to that guy’s wisdom has served me well for going on 35 years. I believe I’ll give it a few more …
Blessings,
Blue Collar Muse

I keep open trackbacking it hoping to get people interested… I think I need to write spicier headlines.
Paul @ Wizbang is on vacation right now, but when he gets back I’m going to email him about it. (He’s also a NOLA blogger.) You’re right, though - we need to stay on it.
I like that writer, too.

I am glad to see that this issue is continuing to draw commentary from a diverse group of bloggers. I’m going to take your ideas back to my villagers.
Anyhow, I hope that all of us with blogs take a moment to update our readers on the injustice taking place with the young people known as the Jena Six.
peace, Villager
