I first saw the "up to 100 years" figure in Howard Witt's Chicago Tribune articles a couple of months ago. I believe it's just based on consecutive maximum sentences for the original charges. Attempted second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit same, and one or two other charges. I'll post another comment with a link -- maybe the spambot got it when I posted before.
