I’ve had a few glitches with my Wordpress theme since I upgraded. Rather than salvage my old one, I decided to start over. Granted, I worked hard on the old one and I really liked how it turned out, but it was far from perfect and it was in service for more than a year, so it’s about time for a new look.
This is not the new look. This looks like a real dog. Zoolian, even. (Remember Ghostbusters?)
What, then, is the appeal of this hideous theme? It’s fast, fluid-width, accessible even to screen readers, and search engine friendly. When you have a great foundation, it’s worth taking the time to remodel. So this weekend I’ll be doing some redecorating around here, but in the meantime, all the functionality is back. And if you’re a Wordpress user interested in the theme, you can learn more here. Fast, clean code by a bona-fide accessibility expert. If you can manage some CSS editing, then this is the theme for you.
Update: As you can see I’ve made a few changes. I changed the CSS to add the graphic header, changed a lot of colors, and tweaked the width of the sidebars in the stylesheet. I tweaked the php file to add a home button to the menu and to put the bible verse at the top of the sidebars. I may change the menu fix later – I prefer to be able to click on the header graphic to return home. This theme has been incredibly easy to work with. The CSS is well organized, and even though I didn’t make a lot of code changes, I noticed that it’s well commented so if I do, it will be easy.
Upcoming changes – updates
- setting up the inline trackbacks and comment formatting buttons – done! the formatting buttons, anway
- adding the number of comments for each post to the home page
- grouping comments and placing them above trackbacks on the post page – done! thanks to this plugin
- some new plugins that the theme supports like adding a list of other posts in category to the bottom of the post
Hope you like it.
