Fill Up Today; Gas Prices Are Going Up Tomorrow

Production was already slowed/stopped because of TS Erin, now they’re bugging out ahead of Dean.

NEW ORLEANS — As Hurricane Dean approaches, Gulf of Mexico offshore oil and gas operators have begun evacuating platforms and rigs and shutting down production.

About 0.17 percent of the Gulf’s oil production has been halted, or roughly 2,163 barrels a day. Estimated oil production from the Gulf as of April was 1.3 million barrels a day.

Officials also estimate about 0.1 percent of natural gas production has been stopped, or roughly 8 million cubic feet per day. Estimated natural gas production from the Gulf as of April was 7.7 billion cubic feet per day.

In other words, gas prices are about to go up.  It’s not a conspiracy, Cheney didn’t do it, Rove wasn’t involved.  It’s just the reality of tropical weather impacting where we get our oil.  Don’t like it?  Then drill in ANWAR, and off the coasts of Florida and California and you won’t be so dependent upon the production in the Gulf of Mexico.
