The Vast, Inland Sea Scare, Today and In 1958

Michelle Malkin links this classic unhinged rant:
Michelle Malkin » Rejoice! Global warming will kill Santa…and the entire right-wing, too!
The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean—and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats—are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. While the northeast will also see some coastal flooding, its geography is such that that aside from a few projecting sandbars like Long Island and Cape Cod, the land rises fairly quickly to well above sea level. Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes. The West Coast too tends to rise rapidly to well above sea level in most places. Only down in Southern California towards the San Diego area is the ground closer to sea level. So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles…
I wonder if it would be a shock to Mr. Moonbat to realize that this concept was pushed in the 1950s, BEFORE the global cooling scare that I grew up with. When I was a kid, the party line was, “Enjoy your summers, you won’t have them when you’re a grown-up.” I remember hearing adults discuss the “fact” that as the earth cooled, each family would need a greenhouse to offset the drastic decline in food production. But the fact is that people have been pushing various climate scares since 1895. Pat Sajak wonders what the optimal temperature for the earth actually is, and once we have it, how do we maintain it? The much vaunted scientific consensus doesn’t exist. The models are faulty. But the good news is that we don’t need to worry about global warming anymore. It’s the upcoming ice age that we really need to fear:
Moreover, thanks to new evidence that Dr. Kukla only recently published, he now knows that global warming always precedes an ice age.

Not so much a prediction as a prayer. What distinguishes this from normal left-wing quasi-religious maliciousness, like attributing Tony Snow’s cancer to some sort of karmic blowback from his work for Bush, is that it’s not content to have the heathens drowned or boiled, as a deranged Phelpsian Old Testament preacher might be.
