Jay Tea Joining Ace and Dan Riehl - Updated
Another prominent blogger has expressed a willingness to vote for Hillary if the other choice is Huckabee. The media has given Huckabee a lot of breaks because they like him - and from their perspective, what’s not to like? - but as the public catches up with bloggers, Huckabee is going to lose a lot of ground. I hope. I told friends last night that I’ll either stay home or vote Dem for the first time since 1991 if Huckabee is the GOP candidate. (I voted for the crook. It was important.) I find these arguments persuasive:
Ace:
Not that what one blogger thinks matters that much, but if Huckabee gets the nomination, I’m voting Democratic. It’s not just an idle threat; I just won’t vote for him and in fact won’t even vote third party or stay home. I’ll vote for the Democratic candidate, even Hillary. I won’t be a party to selling out everything the party is supposed to stand for to a liberal ideology. If we’re going to have eight years of liberal rule, I’d rather the Democratic Party be governing, so at least they can take the blame. And, quite frankly, Hillary is to the right of Huckabee on most issues, if only because she’s politically afraid to do the kind of crap Huckabee does and dream of doing at night. She couldn’t afford to be as soft as Iran as Huckabee would. And I don’t think I’m alone on this.
I’m surprised to see Ace say he’d vote for Hillary before Huckabee. The fact is, I have been thinking about this for days and reached the very same conclusion last night. And, yes, I mean it, too. In fact, if, given his record and how he is now obviously pandering to evangelicals and who knows what he promised Gilchrist to get his endorsement, if he buys the Republican nod with a smile, a prayer and empty promises, I’m done.
… I will hold my nose and either vote for the Democrat because I prefer to know what I’m getting, even if I’m getting screwed, or a Third Party conservative if one comes up. I am done voting for Republicans who don’t represent what I believe in, low taxes and small government. Frankly, I think Huckabee just might be worse than Hillary on that score and if we have a Republican President advocating the above and the foreign policy stuff Ace lays out below - I will not enable it.
If in November it comes down to Huckabee or Hillary Clinton, I might have to hold my nose and cast my vote for the carpetbagger over the Huckster. Ideologically, they don’t seem to far apart on the issues that matter to me, but at least with Hillary her sanctimoniousness is far more transparent, and her socialist agenda more easily rejected without the veneer of religion over it.
Hyscience agrees.
Most people do not read blogs. They listen to talk radio and watch the news. So they really don’t know much about Huckabee except that he is the “Christian candidate.” My friends didn’t know his church was Purpose Driven. (Read the first comment in that article for more info. And in my circles, that’s as bad as being associated with Joel Osteen.) They didn’t know that he’s as bad as Carter on foreign policy. They didn’t know he’s a nanny-stater. They don’t yet realize what a pandering, identity politics hypocrite he is. They have no idea how many gifts he accepted as Governor, or how many pardons he gave. But they’re going to find out. I hope Rush endorses Thompson rather than Romney, but I’m glad he’s at least getting the word out on the Huckster. It’s a start.
Updated - And then there were five… Brennan at The American Pundit concurs. Back when he first posted this decision he took some heat from some Huckolytes about it, but noted that they seemed to think it was okay to take that stance with regard to Rudy.

See, now, I understand their points, however, no matter how bad Huckabee is, he is still better then a socialist president with a possible socialist Congress taking us down the road to all they want to do. Huckabee may only stand with Conservatives now and then, and screw us at other times, but, Dems are going to screw us and the USA 100% of the time.
I do not want Huckabee at all. But, I would take my castor oil and vote for him if it came to that.

Well, you’re welcome to do so - it’s a free country after all. (Unless you’re a smoker, and then Huck’ll shut you down.) For me, I’d rather have the Marxist I know than the one I don’t, basically. I want the Dems to take the blame for the wrecked economy and loss of freedom. I want the Dems to be held responsible for Jimmy Carter’s second term just like they were for the first one.
All snark aside, I honestly don’t think the GOP can afford to move even further left.

I beg your pardon. I published no such article. In fact, I clearly said I was not publishing it, as it was too mean-spirited. Only those people who thought I was bluffing were supposed to see the unpublished article, and I in no way endorse quoting, citing, or linking to the piece I did not choose to publish.
Some people just don’t understand a gesture of good will and grace…

You’re quite right. I apologize.

I dig Huckabee - the Chuck Norris commercial is just classic! I happen to agree with him on most issues as well- lest you think I would vote my next president in on the strength of a television ad.

Craig… why? Seriously.

It’s a toss up. I’d probably have to vote Huckabee because he won’t have a base pushing him relentlessly to yank all the troops out of Iraq. But I do understand the sentiment (and frustration) that the Evangelicals are threatening to take this country back to the malaise days of Carter.
