Gang Member McCain

Ace has an important question about McCain & the Gang of 14

I’ve been emailing McCarthy to find out if he or Levin has written an article about McCain’s actual commitment to supporting — or appointing, if elected President — conservative judges. I don’t think they’ve addressed this point specifically.

But I’ll just note that we know when McCain is emotionally stirred by an issue. He gets angry. He called, for example, Senator Cornyn a “chickens**t” and screamed “F**k you!” at him when he tried to alter McCain’s comprehensive piece of sh*t to make it more palatable to sovereignty-minded conservatives.

Can anyone recall McCain putting his political chips on the line for a single conservative judge? Can anyone remember him displaying his well-known temper when a very fine man, Miguel Estrada, was slandered and filibustered by the Democrats for no other reason than the fact that he was eminently qualified, young, and Hispanic, and therefore a likely Supreme Court pick one day?

Because I don’t.

It never happened. Every time McCain has put his political chips on the line, it’s been for a liberal cause - and incidentally something to increase his media quotient maverick-ness. Although he will make a good speech from time to time on issues such as pork, he’s never (that I recall, but I’m happy to be corrected on this) thrown himself into that fight with the same energy that he reserves for his liberal causes.

Several Bush nominees were filibustered and blocked in 2002 and 2003, including Miguel Estrada.

During the Estrada battle, the Republican activist said, “McCain was a whiner. He kept saying, ‘why are we

having these repeated votes (to try to stop the filibuster)?’ He was obtuse; he didn’t get why the issue was

    important.”

Thanks for the link, I hadn’t seen that story.

I don’t buy that McCain was obtuse, though - I think he knew exactly what he was doing, don’t you?

McCain is wily, full of vitupertive combacks fueled by deep anger and resentment that he was ’so badly treated’ when GWB cleaned his clock in 2000. This is an obsessive compulsive man with a hair trigger response mechanism that bodes ill for our nation if he leads it. But I believe he can’t do as much harm as Hillary or Obama….at least the socialism they are sure to bring with them is not well-developed in McCain’s mind, I think. (hope) The press may be his achilles heel if he wins the nomination.

The problem is Congress. While Hillary or Obama may desire to implement more socialist policies, a determined GOP minority in Congress can do a great deal to stop them. McCain’s socialism-lite will actually move us further left because nearly all of Congress will go along with it.
