Some Students: End Women’s Suffrage!

Today is the anniversary of a House vote to deny women suffrage.

1915: House votes down female suffrage

The House of Representatives, with a vote of 204 to 174, refused to submit a constitutional amendment providing “votes for women” to the states for ratification today.

“The vote, the second in the history of congress on the woman suffrage issue, came at the close of a day of oratory, during which the many speakers were listened to with frequent evidences of approval or disapproval by packed galleries,” reported The Evening Tribune on January 13, 1915.

Suffragist leaders like Anna Howard Shaw and Carrie Chapman Catt said their fight was not over and “would be pressed forward and onward until every woman in America should have the right to cast a ballot.” NOTE: The 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was finally enacted in 1920.

Here’s a lot of college-aged women who think there’s entirely too much women’s suffrage in the United States:

And in their specific cases, I heartily agree. Only 88 years after this historic and nation-changing battle, and most of the current generation of voters doesn’t have a clue how it happened. There are people still alive today who can probably remember the first time their mother voted. For my part, and my daughter’s, we say, “Well done, sister Suffragette!”

Here’s a Library of Congress timeline of the 72 year battle, along with some great photos.

When I first saw this I thought horrible – I can’t believe you are against a woman’s right to vote. Then I watched the video and agree with you 100%. I think there should be some young women…Yikes!

Hopefully they’ll smarten up in a few years. I loved the ones who got all indignant, even though you could tell they weren’t sure what the word meant. But they guessed, and went with the outrage. Typical college libs. Sadly, there are quite a few videos like this on YouTube.
