Today’s Reading List, Atlas Shrugged Edition

February 1, 2008 by Laura | Trackback URI

I’m chock full of things to post on, but no time or energy to do it. Primarily the absolute biblical bankruptcy of the so-called “social justice” mix of faith and politics. It’s something that Christians should soundly reject. More on that next week.

Honestly, after reading Atlas Shrugged again for the first time in many years, I’m so demoralized politically that I haven’t got much to say about politics. We will have a socialist world government, kids. Believe it. Society is so dumbed-down by postmodernism now that it’s well-nigh unstoppable. What amazes me is how absolutely prescient Ayn Rand’s writing was. I’d say Atlas Shrugged was “ripped from the headlines” except it was written over fifty years ago. John Piper also had a love/hate relationship with Rand’s work. I will say this – the Christianity she so soundly rejects in Atlas Shrugged bears little relationship to biblical Christianity. The faith that she rejects, I also reject.

I did scan some posts in my RSS reader and these caught my attention.

For Christians dealing with information overload, this article was timely and helpful. Information does not equal wisdom.

Dana at Principled Discovery comments on a semi-hit piece on homeschooling in the Colorado Independent. Entirely too many people find the idea of parents schooling their own children, free from government interference, a fearful idea.

Forget pesky ideas like “the legalistic interpretation of Scripture,” it’s unity that is the most important thing! Although this is certainly not his goal, here’s hoping Jimmy Carter will help unify, energize, and return to the fundamentals as many Baptists as he has adherents of Islam.

A thoughtful read: Christianity and Islam: Two Worldviews and Why They Matter

Somehow losing 7.2 billion dollars makes you a modern-day Robin Hood? Do these people have any idea how the food actually gets into their refrigerators? On a related note, I heard excellent news on the radio today – Exxon Mobil evidently had record profits. The millions of people with Exxon Mobil in their 401K accounts, and stockholders like my friend, have good reason to celebrate.

Good news is no news, but that’s not news to people who read blogs. Oh well, who is John Galt?
