Amazing. This is what you get after decades of politicians bribing people for votes by giving them stuff. It doesn’t lead to gratitude. Instead it leads to demands for more. I’ve long believed public housing should be tiny and austere. It should be awful enough to motivate people to work and get a better home on their own.

I am a born-again Christian, I’m compassionate and generous to a fault sometimes, but stories like this just make me want to scream! How have we engendered a class of Americans who cannot understand that their lives are their own responsibility? Yes, sometimes we all need some help, but, for goodness sake, show some gratitude and humilty toward your benefactors (i.e., taxpayers).

I believe in helping the poor as Jesus taught us, so that is why I support foreign missions generously–these are people who know povery and need our help. The Jaspers are not poor, just lazy. The Lord told us that those that won’t work should not eat. Amen.

I think all Americans should qualify for up to two years of public assistance when needed, but when that is gone, that’s it, it’s time to take care of yourself if you are physically able. (True disability, not headaches or back pain or drug addiction).

Everyone else in the US thinks this is something out of the ordinary, but what y’all don’t know is that there is quite a population of folks just like Sharon Jasper who, all their lives, believe that they are owed all this stuff, including that huge 60 inch TV. They don’t know what it is to get a job and work for all that stuff. Many folks who left found a whole new life outside of the projects and just never went back to their old lives, white, black, whatever. But people like Sharon Jasper just insist that they are owed it all. There are many like her in Houston, too, but Houston isn’t putting up with it. That’s why people like this one went back–they couldn’t keep up that free ride. And of course the folks who found out that life outside the Crescent City could be totally different–Katrina, bad as it was, benefitted a lot of folk in that fashion.

Really–this is nothing new. The public-housing-government-dole population has been living very well in NOLA for a long, long time. Those of us who worked hard to get out are glad we’re gone, but we feel for the relatives who stayed for whatever reason.

Every time I hear about Brad Pitt and his plan for rebuilding New Orleans, I think to myself, “Heaven help you son, you’re going to need it. You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into.”

Anyway, my two cents.
