The times, they are a changin’

What’s considered appropriate for nine year old girls has changed a great deal in the last two decades. The 80s brought us the deeply annoying Strawberry Shortcake fad. I never thought a children’s fad could aggravate me more, until some demonic imp inspired the creation of Barney, allowing parents to park their children in front of the television and enjoy hours of “me-time. ” But the new trend in children’s entertainment makes my disgust with the cloying sweetness of those characters pale in comparison.
Today, we have the horrific Miss Bimbo, the latest in a trend of increasingly sexualized children’s characters.
We can be grateful for small favors, I guess. They did at least take the diet pills off the site.
I grew up loving Strawberry Shortcake, too…
