Just When I’m All Set To Not Vote For McCain…

Just when I’m all set to not vote for McCain, McQ and Cassandra give me to reasons to stay on the Fast Talk Express a bit longer. [sigh]
McQ notes that McCain had a nifty idea. Not that it’ll happen, but it’s still a good idea and I’m pleased he’s calling attention to these exorbitant taxes. Maybe people will realize that there’s more to this problem than oil companies making an “outrageous” profit.
To help people weather the downturn immediately, McCain was calling for Congress to institute a “gas-tax holiday” by suspending the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.4 cent diesel tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day. He also renewed his call for the United States to stop adding to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and thus lessen to some extent the worldwide demand for oil.
Combined, he said, the two proposals would reduce gas prices, which would have a trickle-down effect and “help to spread relief across the American economy.”
And because it’s tax day, let me remind you that Exxon Mobil pays more in taxes than half the country combined pays. Imagine your tax burden if Exxon Mobil paid taxes like Ted Kennedy pays taxes.
From Cassandra, we have a reminder that McCain is perhaps not the weaselly sack of guano I accused him of being. Maybe the guano sack is only half-full.
In his time, which was not very long ago, Mo Udall was one of the most-sought-after men in the Democratic Party. Yet as he dies in a veterans hospital a few miles from the Capitol, he is visited regularly only by a single old political friend, John McCain. “He’s not going to wake up this time,” McCain said.
I need to keep reminding myself… it could be worse. He could be Huckabee. And so far, at least, he doesn’t push poll.
