The Kos Kids and their fellow travelers are going to hate you because of who and what you are: you are at least nominally conservative by virtue of being in the GOP, and you’re a baby-killer war mongerer former military who has the nerve to not be anti-war. If they vote for you it will only be because their preferred Dem candidate didn’t claw their way to the nomination and they want to get even.
And the conservative blogs know as much about you as we need to know. We’ve been watching you for years, Mav. It’s too late. If you want us to like you, you’d better do some serious backtracking on a few of your pet issues including illegal immigration. But since you’ve already tried that, and since you immediately rescinded it upon getting the nomination, you’re not going to be believable now. In fact, a lot of us who used to say, “I disagree with him, but I’ll give him credit for being the rare honorable politician,” no longer say that because we feel you lied in order to get the nomination. If you’d said all along that you were going to push “comprehensive” reform, you would never have made the cut, even with all the Democrats who crossed over to vote for you.
Obviously people will still contend for what they believe in, and they should, but parroting the suggested campaign talking points all over the blogosphere simply isn’t going to fly. As they say at Fark, hilarity will ensue.
I wanted to find out what those McCain Online Action Center points would get you, but I’m not willing to get even more mail from the McCain campaign than I already get in order to learn. But it’s going to get out. And you’re going to be mocked. Severely.
