They have renounced this world and have chosen a new model after which to pattern their lives. This is the aspect of the Christian life that most people do not like. They want comfort, blessing and peace, but they recoil from this radical, revolutionary break with the world.
That’s a good description of why I despise the prosperity “gospel” – Jesus on Amway – so deeply. Fox’s Book of Martyr’s… story after story of people glorifying God up to and including their deaths because love for Him and because His glory was more important to them. And the millions upon millions of untold stories of the average Joe Christian daily picking up his cross and persevering… it will be a pleasure in heaven to hear those stories.
I think particularly in America, people think “easy” and “good” are synonymous. They aren’t. Christianity isn’t easy, but it is good.
