“Swinegate”? Obama’s Lipstick Gaffe

September 10, 2008 by Laura | Trackback URI

Intentional? Unintentional? Either way, it makes him look bad. If Obama’s reference to putting lipstick on a pig was a veiled swipe at Palin, then it was classless and juvenile. Just like his repeated flipping the bird at Hillary, sneaky high school style, was childish, passive-aggressive, and unworthy of any adult, much less a candidate for the highest office in the land and the leader of the free world. If it was unintentional, as he claims, then he didn’t think that through and certainly doesn’t deserve the credit for being a brilliant orator. Personally, I think it was not a swipe at Palin – in spite of the fact that Democratic operatives have been rather overusing the word lipstick lately. But hey, live by the macaca moment, die by the macaca moment.

My sympathy quotient has already been met this election season – spent on the repeated and false vicious attacks against Palin and her family, while Obama’s record goes unexamined. When Palin is criticized for her brief contact with Pat Buchanan yet Obama essentially gets a pass for Ayers and Wright, I’m less inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who claimed to want to raise the discourse and who allegedly desired a new style of politics.

In any event, we’ve had our little gotcha moment and while it’s mildly entertaining, it’s time to move on before it backfires.  The simple fact is there’s no need to play “gotcha” for trivial things like this – even if he meant it! – when there is such an abundance of valid ammunition to use against him.  Much of which is at least touched on in this O’Blowhard video.  I can’t stand the guy,  but it was refreshing to have someone in the media make at least some effort to hold Obama’s feet to the fire on these issues.

Via Hot Air – Video: O’Reilly grills Obama on Wright, Ayers, Kos, pretty much everyone – Allahpundit writes:

Try not to laugh when The One, asked how he failed to notice Wright’s eccentricities when hate sermons were being recorded and sold by Trinity, counters feebly with, “What can I tell you?” What indeed.

My comment doesn’t really relate to this story, but I notice that you link to electoral-vote.com. I personally have just about had it with the bias at that website.

Regarding the pig thing, I like it when politicians really go into the gutter and say what they really think.

I don’t necessarily think Obamessiah meant his statement as a swipe against Palin; however, at this point in Obamania I’m pretty glad for any negative press the guy gets. He’s been let off the hook too many times, IMO.

I think a lot of Republicans are being over sensative about Obama’s remark about lipstick on a pig. He wasn’t referring to Sara Palin at all, he was referring to the pig he sees every morning putting on her lipstick.

On Letterman, Obama says IF he had been referring to Sarah Palin, taking the logical mental leap, McCain would be the pig, and Palin would be the lipstick. I can imagine that women all over America will just be ecstatic, knowing that Obama considers an all-American girl like Palin as “lipstick”. -Heh. Keep on talking, my beamish boy, calloo, callay.

If Obama is the “messiah” who is Pallin, with her supposedly “uniting the base.” And if Michelle is a “pig” (Bob) , what is Cindi for stealing from her own charities?
