Good grief, this woman has gone over the edge. Wendy Doniger needs a good healthy dose of the cognitive dissonance to which she has apparently grown numb. Her blog titled All Beliefs Welcome, Unless They are Forced on Others includes this slam against Sarah Palin: “Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman.”
Ms. Doniger may disagree with her politics, but Sarah Palin has XX chromosomes and is undeniably a woman. Who died and made Ms. Doniger the arbiter of womanliness? Such arrogance! Or as Charlie Gibson might call it, hubris. Whatever gave her the idea that SHE speaks for the women of America? Perhaps she represent her ivory-tower comrades, but most women – you know, us poor, uneducated, easy to command types who make the middle of the map red – could not sit through a womyn’s studies course without feeling actively nauseated.
But I object strongly when anyone (and especially anyone with political power) tries to take their theology out in public, to inflict those private religious (or sexual) views on other people. In both sex and religion (which combine in the debates about abortion), Sarah Palin’s views make me fear that the Republican party has finally lost its mind.
… Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman. The Republican party’s cynical calculation that because she has a womb and makes lots and lots of babies (and drives them to school! wow!) she speaks for the women of America, and will capture their hearts and their votes, has driven thousands of real women to take to their computers in outrage. She does not speak for women; she has no sympathy for the problems of other women, particularly working class women.
But the Obamas, a couple who can afford to send their kids to $20k+ a year private school and then drop another $10k on piano lessons, dance lessons, and camp have LOADS of sympathy for the proletarians, I’m sure. (The Palins send their children to public school.) A couple in which the husband can see to it that his wife receives a raise of almost $200,000 in one year. (Unless you’re willing to buy the concept that the million he earmarked for her employer was completely unrelated to her raise, which I am not.) Before I was self-employed, a really good raise for me was a couple thousand a year.
Perhaps Ms. Doniger’s greatest hypocrisy is that womanhood is bequeathed upon accepting the “correct” political beliefs – at the same time she calls herself open-minded and tolerant.
As a side note – I’m genuinely offended by those who are leaping to Palin’s defense who include slams against Doniger’s appearance. “Ugly” appears too often in the comment section of that post.
Nice attack article Wendy. You could be the poster child for the Stupid Broad Assocation, but you really do look like a dog with lipstick.
Another psychotic diatribe by a bitter and UGLY woman. It seems the only qualification needed to be a professor of the history of religions is a healthy dose of mental illness coupled with a face that no amount of lipstick could fix.
Wendy Doniger is the ugliest human being i’ve ever seen in my life.
Well, I don’t look like this anymore. And in twenty years, I’ll look even less like that. Just like attacks on Obama for trivial things like his junior-high style flipping Hillary the bird are a waste of time when there’s so much genuine ammunition of his own making to fire at him, attacks on Doniger’s appearance are low-class, tacky, and indicative of shallow thinking.

I am woman, hear me roar…. perhaps that is the only qualification for Wendy…… ridiculous.
Home and waiting for Ike. Maybe I should have stayed on vacation.
LOL.. megadittos on your great post. So true. Unfortunately, I used to be a feminist, pro-abort liberal lipstick wearing dogface like Wendy Doniger. But the life giving mercy and transforming grace of Almighty God the Father Son and Holy Spirit, I am now a cheering supporter of Sarah Palin – bible believing Christian, conservative, and pro-life. Its awful to look in Wendy Doniger’s mirror and see myself looking back, as I used to be. UGLY. Let’s not forget that Wendy needs God’s grace and pray for her. Who knows, one day she might come back and comment on your blog just like I’m doing now. Grace and peace, Sillie LIzzie
