Tiresome Little Punks

Lots of hacking in the blogosphere lately… from Sarah Palin’s social engineering email hack (meaning no real programming skill was involved, just good google-fu), most likely by a college student who is the son of a TN Dem. politician, by to the Dos attack on a post at Watt’s Up With That that some script kiddies apparently found offensive.  When something doesn’t fit the prevailing narrative – the GOP is evil and criminal, and global warming is going to Destroy Us All!!1!!!11!!!!!!eleventy!!1!!!! it simply must be stopped by any means necessary.  And the means, these days, includes abuses of technology.

Unrelated to any political issues, my work server’s been under attack since Friday night by some tiresome little punks. This is unfortunate because while I build websites for a living and have some programming knowledge, I am decidedly not a technical expert, nor am I much use at maintaining servers. And the expert won’t be available until tomorrow. Such is life. But it’s annoying that I have to go without sleep to keep blocking these punks until the expert can shut them out entirely.  I have to wonder what motivates them to commit this electronic breaking and entering, vandalism. I want to pity them; lost, destructive souls that they are, but right now I’m just tired and mad.

The Sarah Palin hacker was motivated, by his own admission, to find some dirt on her. Well, Republicans aren’t entitled to any privacy, at least according to several “liberal” pundits. That word, liberal… I don’t think it means what they think it means. At least, it no longer means what it meant when I was growing up.  But that attack at least makes sense, if you accept the premise that The GOP Is Evil And Must Be Stopped At All Costs.  I really don’t understand the urge to vandalize servers and websites just for the fun of it.
