Wacky Conspiracy Theory o’ the Day

October 23, 2008 by Laura | Trackback URI

DJ Drummond at Wizbang is the go-to guy for thoughtful poll analysis, and he comments on this interesting fact:

In thirty-six states, the party affiliation weights for democrats used by SUSA was five points or more higher than in 2006, a high-water mark for democrats. In twenty states, the party afiiliation weights for democrats used by SUSA was ten points or more higher than in 2006, and in eight states, the party affiliation weights used for democrats by SUSA was thirteen points or more higher than in 2006.

He doesn’t speculate on why the polls are being, as he put it, “cooked.”  I’ll be somewhat less responsible than DJ and speculate wildly:

Because when all the cheating gets done - like the Dems stealing Ohio, for example - if the polls show that Obama had a solid lead, it will look less like wholesale election theft.

This theory doesn’t require George Soros to coordinate the whole thing from his High Tech Secret Volcano Hideout.  If it were actually happening, a good deal of it could be attributed to the same “conspiracy of shared values” in which the media partakes.  Oversampling Democrats because, hey, nobody I know voted for Nixon! and besides, look at all these huge piles of ACORN voter registrations - those are in urban areas and everyone knows those areas vote Democrat.

The polls, inadvertantly or not - and I think it’s probably inadvertant - facilitate deliberate cheating which is enabled by the fact that even in-person voting requires no ID in most states.  Of course absentee voting makes it even simpler.  And people like Jennifer Brunner know it, and are taking advantage of the political cover those polls and a remarkably incurious media will give them on November 5th.

So… Wacky conspiracy theory?  Sort of.  It’s actually less a conspiracy theory than it is an observation that some folks who are perfectly willing to bend, break, and bypass election laws are bright enough to take advantage of the opportunity being handed to them on a silver platter.
