A Timely Reminder

A very timely reminder:
What if it doesn’t go the way you want and the other guy is elected? I ran into this passage in Titus 3 yesterday that puts it in perspective:
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. (Titus 3:1-2, NIV)
I agree. It’s pretty clear I don’t want Obama to win. Not that I’m terribly keen on McCain – I’ve said more than once that the biggest problem with this election is that either McCain or Obama will win it! But If Elected, Obama Will Be My President, and Titus 3 is one reason why. There’s also Romans 13:1-2 -
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
And this reminder that our lives are, in fact, a vapor and it doesn’t do to get to attached to the things of this world:
They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed them, and admitted openly that they were foreigners and refugees on earth. Those who say such things make it clear that they are looking for a country of their own. They did not keep thinking about the country they had left; if they had, they would have had the chance to return. Instead, it was a better country they longed for, the heavenly country. And so God is not ashamed for them to call him their God, because he has prepared a city for them.
(Hebrews 11:13-16)
And finally, if you’re feeling snarky:
The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
(Proverbs 16:4)

Like an aging monument, democracy itself is crumbling.
