The media Obama Spirit Squad has made much of Sarah Palin’s wardrobe upgrade. Which I agree is excessive – as are Hillary’s $6,000 pantsuits, and let us not forget that Obama made the cover of GQ for a reason, and it wasn’t to show off those deals he got at Wal-Mart.
But I was unpleasantly surprised by this – Final bill on the Barackopolis: $5.3 million:
Keep this figure in mind when people claim that the $150,000 the RNC spent on Sarah Palin’s wardrobe represents some kind of frivolity. At least she’s going to wear the clothes more than once, and it may raise some decent funds for charity at the end of the campaign. The Democrats spent an additional $5.3 million on the Barackopolis at Invesco Field, after spending over $14 million to outfit the Pepsi Center
We are spending entirely too much money on elections, and not on things that are substantive. The money is being blown on frivolous stage settings and things that make a candidate “look Presidential” while real discussion takes a backseat to soundbites. But people don’t care; most who watched the debate did so hoping for a game show atmosphere where the candidates scored points off one another.
I don’t blame the candidates for giving people what they want. I blame the people for wanting it.
