I’m surprised: the Palins don’t tithe.

After all the fuss made about Palin’s faith, I was surprised to see that her family doesn’t tithe:

Sarah and Todd Palin had a gross income of nearly $170,000 last year and paid nearly $25,000 in taxes.

… The couple donated more than $8,000 to charity over two years.

They still give considerably more than the Bidens, but that’s nothing to brag about.

I know my family doesn’t report money we give to church; there’s no law that says you have to, and it might lessen the entire point.

    Just a possibility. 8^)

not everyone believes in the tithe = 10% old testament law either. its not fair to be so extremely judgmental and say “they dont tithe” just because it doesn’t meet with your interpretation of a law. the new testament says much about giving, but it doesn’t stipulate a sum, “the lord loves a cheerful giver”. with four children an/d another one on the way, and without knowing what financial obligations they personally have, I don’t think you or anybody else should sit in judgment of how much they decided to give.

Foxfier, you make a good point.

Sillie – the OT tithe is extremely straightforward. You either give it or you don’t; there’s not much there to interpret. And in an AoG church, where Palin grew up, and in the Pentecostal denomination, the OT 10% tithe is expected to be the starting point of giving.

Do not mistake observation for judgement. You can come up with any number of explanations for why the Palin’s tax return shows they do not tithe, but it is plain to see they do not – unless, as Foxfier suggested, they simply don’t report it. I simply said I was surprised; I was not in the least “judgemental” about it. I’m simply reporting a fact, much like stating “it’s raining” expresses nothing about my preference for sunshine.

Yall. Let’s be fair and clear on the topic if you want to hit this issue with an objective opinion. I’m trolling on this issue and have found who does what. Here are the tax rankings of givers. This is in percent of income.
    1. McCain
    2. Palin
    3. Obama
    4. Biden
Let’s not beat the faith issue too hard here. Every candidate claims to be a Christian, and every candidate boasts importance of faith. If you want the literal rankings though, here they are. To those of you who will boast the bigger number, keep in mind, that Jesus doesn’t praise the bigger number, but the one who gives cheerfully in faith. That said, all the above should be giving more. McCain just missed the mark by .9% though. Tithe does mean tenth doesn’t it?
