Obama’s Darfur No-Fly Zone Idea

I rolled my eyes last night at Obama’s solution of a no-fly zone in Darfur. I wasn’t the only one annoyed by that concept. It’s unfortunate that the media isn’t going to call him on the utter stupidity and disingenuousness of such an idea. If Palin had said it, it’d be a headline today.

Here’s Jay Tea’s take on it:

The genocide going on there is being committed by armed groups going into remote villages in trucks and killing the people wholesale. They aren’t using aircraft. So why stop at a no-fly zone? Why not expand the ban to no aircraft, no spaceships, no mining vehicles, and no death rays?

No, stopping the genocide will require armed troops on the ground. More specifically, large numbers of heavily-armed troops on the ground, ready and willing to kill the attackers wholesale to demonstrate that the genocide is over.

That will be demonstrated with large numbers of dead bodies. Dead African bodies, bodies of black and Arab Muslims, killed by American troops. And since they aren’t wearing uniforms, they’ll all magically transform into “civilians” and then “innocent civilians” the instant they’re dead.

I think we can all agree that the genocide should be stopped. That’s a no-brainer. But no one, especially the liberal elite and the media (but I repeat myself) has the stomach to do what it would take to stop it.  The only war they like is the one they don’t have.  A no-fly zone is a stunningly dishonest response, because it’s nothing more than a pretense that we’re Doing Something.

What’s worse – most people would fall for it.

McCain said it in a Washington Post editorial with Bob Dole in 2006.
“Third, NATO should immediately establish and enforce a no-fly zone over Darfur to ensure that Khartoum ends its offensive military flights and bombing raids, as the Security Council has already demanded.”

    1. McCain’s nearly as much of an idiot as Obama, as I’ve written repeatedly since he got the nomination.
    2. McCain has evidently wised up on this issue, at least, since 2006.

From what I’ve read, the number of people killed in air raids now (compared to 2004, when the raids were frequent and severe – hundreds were killed) is miniscule compared to those killed up close and in person by the janjaweed. Not to mention that whole slavery thing… but that’s another story.
