A Brave New World, Under Obama’s Rule

So what’s going on in our Brave New World?  Some amusing headlines:

Secret Order Lets U.S. Raid Al Qaeda in Many Countries
Well, we can’t have that. Put a stop to it immediately! Anybody else get the feeling that the NYT is going to learn to love the world “classified” once Bush is back in Texas? The phrase “a senior administration official” is going to disappear from Lexis-Nexis. I guarantee it.

Gaza facing fresh fuel shortages
Not that Palestinians did anything to provoke a blockade. Perish the thought!

Obama plans U.S. trials for Gitmo detainees
Can’t wait. But it’d be cheaper to just go ahead and free them now. Why waste taxpayer money on a criminal trial? That money would be better spent retraining the military to learn evidence collection and the process of Mirandizing suspects on the battlefield.

Monks brawl at Christian holy site in Jerusalem
Talk about missing the point….

Study shows how spammers cash in
They’re making less money than I thought, but pixels are cheap so they persist.

Number of first-time home buyers is increasing
Home prices drop, and more people buy? The deuce you say!  Could this be related in any way to the foreclosure crisis?

Iran criticizes Obama’s nuclear comments
Just give them some of our nukes, Mr. President-Elect. You said on the campaign you intended to cut our arsenal, so this would be a good way to do it. Then they’ll like us, and that’s the most important thing.

The night Oprah wept
It’s creepy how this can be a headline in a business publication, isn’t it?

Plan for new Maldives homeland
Move it to Greenland. When the icecaps melt and the rest of the world drowns, that’ll be prime real estate.

Justice Leader’s Job: Renew A Battered Agency
And Jamie Gorelick is just the nonpartisan to do it!

Work not over: Farrakhan
Mainstream.

And from the blogosphere:

Obama Spokesman Says ‘Obama Ready to RULE on Day 1′
Coming from people who have spent eight years shrieking about the Bush “regime” what did you expect?

And the money quote of the day, literally:

We have been guided by a Republican administration who believes in the simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it and they have an antipathy towards redistributing wealth and they may be able to sustain it for a while but it doesn’t work in the long run.

Gitmo prisioners tried by the legal system will end up being killed in jail by other prisoners or released in USA to help form terror cells. Many were captured in a war zone by other countries and have no PROOF of GUILT, even if they were covered in American blood! Lawyers need to be imbedded in the front lines of all battles from now on, starting with those working for the ACLU!

  2. Drew says:

Hey I know you’ve derided the Obama-not-a-citizen people, but supposedly, the Supreme Court may end up hearing a case about the issue. A citizen with standing named Leo Donofrio brought the case against Obama, and he’s funding the litigation himself. Donofrio accuses both Obama and McCain of lacking the constitutional requirements. (As far as I can tell, though, the argument against McCain should get nowhere.) Supposedly, Justice Thomas put the case on the docket after Souter rejected it.

  3. Laura says:

The McCain thing was already ruled on, I believe, or Congress voted on it, or something.

Unless it can be proved that Obama’s mother gave up her citizenship, he’s an American. (For example, a missionary friend of mine married an Indonesian woman, and they had a baby in Bali. The baby is an American – all you need is one American parent.)

But I think – even relying on a complicit media – that the Democrats would never be so bold as to run a non-citizen for the office. It just doesn’t make sense.

I imagine Thomas took the case to shut down 4 or 8 years of “Obama’s not an American!” trooferism.

  4. Drew says:

Well, supposedly the law at the time said that to become a citizen, at least one American parent had to have been in the country at least five years after the age of fourteen. Obama’s mom was eighteen when she had him. Also, there’s the possibility that Obama gave up his citizenship. (If he didn’t give it up, his family must have lied to the Indonesian authorities to get him into school).

I don’t know the truth, but it’s highly suspicious how unwilling Obama has been to answer these allegations. Normally someone is innocent until proven guilty. But once we’ve got his grandmother on tape claiming she was with him in Kenya at birth, he has an obligation to rebut the evidence. And I agree that even if Obama has told us the truth, leaving the matter unsettled in the public mind would be dangerous.
