What I’m reading instead of working…

Yesterday was all hospital stuff, but I’ve had a very productive morning today while I wait for the phone to ring.  I deleted over 1200 emails; I’m down to about 450.  I haven’t developed the Inbox Zero lifestyle yet, but I do go through and use that method to purge.  And I scanned through the headlines in my overflowing RSS reader.  Here’s some of what caught my attention:

St. Kathleen of Arc NRO is paying a heavy price for her courageous dissent.  Really, this drama is just sad.  Somebody put a flaming bag of poo on her porch or roll her house – she evidently needs a persecution credibility boost to become the media’s new pet “conservative” now that Andrew Sullivan’s gone completely insane.  Jonah Goldberg throws a glass of cold water in her face.  Slublog is disgusted, too.  These people know what paying a price for dissent from orthodoxy means, and what it looks like when free speech is attacked

Plans for another economic “stimulus” will be put off until Obama takes office and can get credit for it.   Whatever.  It’s wealth redistribution, plain and simple.  All the things I hated about Bush’s terms – redistribution, massive government growth – are going to be continued and expanded under Obama.  I’m starting to really look forward to a recession, as crazy as that sounds.  A local radio station recently reported that stores are bringing back layaway, and had to explain that it’s essentially the reverse of credit cards – you make payments, and when you’re done making payments, you get the item.  Living on credit is not sustainable, and the sooner people stop it, the better off they’ll be.  It’s not just the Dems – the GOP thinks they’re entitled to our money too.  But as much as I might criticize President Bush, credit where it’s due – he’s done what he could to protect babies.

Obama has joined Condi Rice, Michael Steele, and Colin Powell in the ranks of “house negroes” but this time it’s not that lame cartoonist or Belafonte making the slur, it’s al Qaeda.  I guess I’m wrong for it, but I find that pretty amusing.  [To clarify - I find it amusing that Zawahiri is using the same slur as Ted Rall and Harry Belafonte, and while I'm obviously just guessing, I bet that's where he got it from, because it's not a term used in the middle east.] But will Osama bin Ladin transfer his Whitney Houston fixation to Michelle Obama, whose backside is now being lauded by the media?

I agree that yelling at the back of a deaf man is pointless.  But I don’t think bloggers should give up; we need something to counterbalance the media.

Angel was surprised by an exit poll with many “Christians” who do not consider themselves to be born again.  I’m hoping that part of that is a terminology issue.  I know quite a few Catholics who wouldn’t dream of using the term “born again” but when you get down to the nuts and bolts of what they believe, it’s clear they are saved.

Imagine attending the same church for 90 years.  That’s a lot of spiritual haircuts.

“Windmill Guy” update:  I’ve posted a couple of times about “Windmill Guy” William Kamkwamba, who figured out from a library book how to build a windmill, which provided power to change his family and his Malawi village’s life.  Coming soon, the book!  and already here, the museum exhibit.

Is Obama really a Christian?  Read this interview and judge for yourself.  These guys did, and their opinions are very interesting.

A Harry Potter trailer!

Obama’s broken promises.  And he’s not even in office yet.  The people who voted for him are going to be very surprised.  Wait until – or if – the information about his illegal donations comes out.

From the “Haven’t these people ever watched Mary Poppins?” Department – the ladies of The View don’t know what “suffrage” means.  The suffragettes would be spinning in their graves – it hasn’t even been a century and they are forgotten already.  This guy thinks we should end women’s suffrage, and a lot of women agree.

And while I was compiling this linkfest, a call from the hospital came – the news is mixed, but God is sovereign and I trust Him to work it all out.
