WaPo Highlights Dem Donors Gushing Over Obama’s Railroad Route to Inauguration -
According to the Washington Post’s Michael Ruane and Nikita Stewart, President-elect Barack Obama’s gimmick of tracing part of Abraham Lincoln’s route to his 1861 inauguration is merely a sign of how much he esteems the 16th president:
Barack Obama has evoked Abraham Lincoln ever since launching his campaign at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill.
Now he plans to arrive in Washington the same way that Lincoln did in 1861, with a train trip that will include stops, speeches and crowds along the way.
Hey, remember in 2004 how the media used so much ink declaring that President Bush ought not to have any fuss made for his inauguration because there’s a war on? Granted, the Iraq war is essentially won, but Afghanistan is going to be an issue for quite a while to come. But then, so much of what applied to Bush has now been turned on its head now that Obama has been elected; it’s more clear than ever how morally bankrupt most of the media really is. While Bush could do no right, Obama clearly can do no wrong. It’s obvious the media intends to continue its cheerleading role and not to check him in any way. On the bright side, I can now dust off and re-use all those Pravda jokes from the 80s; they’re going to be sickenly apropos.
Also worthy of note – Lincoln’s Republicanism continues to swirl its way down the memory hole.
