How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one, but the lightbulb has to really want to change. A group of psychologists “and other social scientists” i.e. academics, and that’s decidedly NOT a compliment, have engaged in a monstrous game of “let’s pretend.” As in, “let’s pretend Hamas doesn’t mean what they say in their founding documents, to the press, to each other, and to Israel. Let’s pretend their actions do not adhere to their stated goals and all this nasty violence is a big misunderstanding.” According to their magical thinking, Hamas must be given lots of stuff (like Gaza, and greenhouses?) and gently shown the error of their ways by the “expert intervention” of heroic professionals.
Thorazine, stat! These people are completely delusional.
ShrinkWrapped deconstructs the nonsense.
Here is a key point for the “Conflict Analysis Professionals for Enduring Security.” Even assuming that they know nothing of Hamas’s professed beliefs and ideology and actually believe that Hamas only wants the same things they want, a peaceful place in which to build a society, they would have to admit, were they not blinded by their own ignorance, that Hamas’s behavior is expressly maladaptive. Even if all the fault in the Middle East were the result of Israeli intransigence, attacking Israel with rockets would be a most unlikely way to achieve what the “Conflict Professionals” imagine they want.
It’s perplexing to imagine how a group of otherwise functioning adults – I presume they have jobs, pay their bills, and attend to the needs of daily life – can be so blind and confused.
