Yeah. Socialism.

obama_socialist“Today, for the first time in many, many years, we have a president’s budget … that is a statement of our national values,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said during the final debate on the House floor.

Pelosi on $3.4 trillion budget: “A statement of our national values”

Although in all fairness, I think that though the implementation of this budget represents socialist values, our “national values” are not socialist. They are postmodern. Which is to say, people are idiots with no idea of what they voted for or the real life consequences thereof. It sounds good, so they’re excited about it. But they’ll learn, and when they do, their collective temper tantrum will be awesome to behold.

Disconnected

homepageunpluggedHow disconnected am I from pop culture?  Last night I watched part of the Tonight Show for the first time in years.  First guest – Michael Douglas.  At one point, he complained that his six year old daughter, who attends dance class, was provocatively swinging her hips and really shaking it.  His gripe – he didn’t figure this would happen for at least another ten years.  Here’s a clue for you, Michael – don’t send her to a dance class that will teach her to do that.  And by the way, there’s no good reason a sixteen year old needs to do that, either.

The next guest was some strange chick who passed around nude photos of herself.  She complained that she’d been previously scheduled for the show, but had been bumped by Barack Obama, that attention whore!  She noted that his appearance on the show was more or less pointless – after all, He Won!   She’s evidently famous enough to have a magazine spread, a book published, and an appearance on the Tonight show, but I don’t even know who that woman was.  And I don’t feel deprived.

It’s just amazing how much of this stuff I used to take in, and take for granted.

Where’s the content?

homepagesinkPosting is light because I’ve been preoccupied with getting the business closed (please God let this be the last server billing cycle!) and tomorrow we have a funeral to attend so today I’m spending a good part of the day in the kitchen. What, you thought Methodists had cornered the casserole market? I beg to differ.

Things will pick back up soon, but in the meantime, there’s plenty going on in the Green Room, Ken sent a spy into the White House to see what the inscription was on that book Chavez gave Obama, and carbon caps are already killing jobs in California. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people. [Read more...]

Quote of the Day

homepagechurchbw

“When our presiding bishop implies she’s more concerned about hunger, primary education, and AIDS and issues like that, then it’s clear that she doesn’t have her mind on the primary objectives the church ought to be following — which are the presentation of the gospel,” says the author. “And that’s what makes the church look like the Peace Corps in ecclesiastical drag.”

Don’t hold back. Tell us what you really think.

It’s a conspiracy!

The conspiracy to make me keep re-buying The White Album continues apace.

“We’re Fired Up! And Ready to Go!” Woman Somewhat Less Fired Up

homepagehopeandchangeWaPo provides a followup on Edith Childs, the “We’re fired up! And ready to go!” lady who provided the Obama campaign with a rallying cry.

Mr. Obama likes telling the story at the end of his rallies to leave supporters with a tangible sense that they, too, can help bring change.

Well, somebody’s bringing some change: WaPo changed the headline from [Read more...]
