Must…. Not…. Swear….

You’d think this is something from The Onion, but it actually happened. The American Society of Civil Engineers investigated itself and found no ethical violations whatsoever. Imagine that!

The American Society of Engineers has decided against filing ethical misconduct charges against any of its executives following a 13-month internal probe into allegations that they and the Army Corps of Engineers systematically attempted to undermine independent investigations of levee and floodwall failures during Hurricane Katrina.`

The announcement was immediately attacked by a spokesman for Levees.org, which had filed some of the ethics complaints. Among other allegations, critics lambasted the cozy relationship between ASCE and the corps, which paid the engineers group $2 million to probe the failure of corps-built levees.

“I am sure those in the administration of the ASCE are pleased with your findings, since none of their misdeeds were further exposed to the public,” said H. J. Bosworth, a civil engineer and Levees.org board member.

They will now trumpet their purity to the world.  (And load up on plenty more gubmint cheese.)  My God, sometimes I hate this city. Or at least so many of the people who run it.
