Couch to 5k Plan

Anybody on a fitness kick for the new year? My husband and I just started this couch to 5k plan… True, I’m completely out of shape but the weird thing is I don’t have a problem with the running. (For one thing, I’m still in the first week, so the running isn’t even up to five minutes per session yet.) I have a problem with the breathing. I was a smoker for 17 years, but I quit 10 years ago, so I can’t imagine that’s still a problem. But man, at the end of a two or three minute jog, I’m dying for air.  And it hurts to breathe for a good hour afterwards.  If you’re a runner, clue me in – is this normal?

We’re a little more ambitious. I signed up the spousal entity and I for a half marathon in May. Having paid, now we’re committed. Guess I better dust of the running shoes…

Good for you! Do you have a training plan? And have you started doing anything, or still on the couch?

Nothing formal – just drag myself out the door early in the morning every morning, gradually building up the miles. It’s difficult since it’s been single-digit temps in the morning for awhile….
