Absolutely infuriatingly naive, stupid, outrageous… I haven’t got a sufficient adjective for this: Priest bridges religious divide by funding Germany’s biggest mosque.
Not long ago, the Rev. Franz Meurer, a Roman Catholic priest in a rough Cologne neighborhood, led his parish to raise funds for the construction of a controversial mosque there, slated to be Germany’s biggest in a city most famous for its Catholic cathedral.
Look, it’s one thing to say, great, we enjoy religious freedom in this country and I wish you well. It’s quite another to financially support a faith that diametrically opposes yours; that calls you an infidel; whose primary source book and nearly all credible scholarly works about it say that you should be required to submit to Islam on pain of death. And the idea that the Catholic church had nothing better to spend money on besides, of all things, a mosque is patently insane.

If I were the Pope, I’d send him to hell for this.
LOL!! Don’t you realize this priest is being ….PROGRESSIVE!!! He’s probably also okay with letting homos having intimate relationships, he IS a catholic priest after all.

The Youtube link is an interview with Jerald Dirks, a former Methodist minister, now a Muslim convert. In all honesty, I’m a good deal less bothered by a conversion than I am by donations to one church supporting an entirely different faith. His story is bizarre – born in 1950, got his license to preach from the Methodists in 1969, so only 19 years old? And he claims they let him start preaching at age 14? Good grief. Then went to Harvard Div School and THEN became a Methodist deacon in 1972 – after he’d already received a license to preach?? Got an MDiv in 1974, spent one summer as an interim minister, and then permanently ceased his career as a minister. Something very, very wrong with all this. Also, he evidently gives credence to 1st century Gnostic writings… what a loon.
@Drew:
LOL. It’s funny because you’re not Roman Catholic.

As stupid as it is to pay to build a place of worship for those who want to kill you, we should be getting pissed at the Parish Council– they’re the ones that have control of the weekly collection, and they’re the ones that came up with the idea to donate it. (I’m honestly not sure if it’s legal or valid to do so, but it’s not Rev Meurer just out of the blue doing so)
Sounds like Father didn’t do anything to stop it, and probably promoted the idea…where the heck is his Bishop? Some of the stories mention he “spoke to” his superiors in the Church.
Can I laugh that the only line I can find of folks objecting is some folks objecting because Muslims aren’t tolerant enough?
Could the anti-Nazi laws have some effect in this?
